The Gutnovs

The Gutnovs are an Ossetian family associated with the village of Dzivgis in the Kurtatinsky Gorge. This section brings together family history, photographs, documents, and research concerning the descendants of Solomon (Sosyk) and Gadzi Gutnov.

Solomon Gutnov (Sosyk Gutnov) was the grandfather of Zefira Kirillovna Gutnova (Butaeva). Her father, Kirill Solomonovich Gutnov, was an Ossetian printing specialist, publishing organiser, and translator.

Zefira Butaeva tells the story of Eugen Gutnov (Gutnoff), Kirill Gutnov and Elbrus Gutnov in “The Brothers’ Tragedy”.

In 1991, their story was published in Daryal (1991, No. 3) under the title “An Ossetian Publisher from Berlin”.
